MBA versus master’s in management: what’s the difference?

The MBA at GW Business emphasizes an advanced, real-world business education with a focus on strategy, operations and decision-making. The MS in Management focuses on leadership essentials and core business knowledge.

• Choose the MBA if you have several years of work experience and want to prepare yourself for senior leadership roles or a career shift into upper management.
• Consider the MS in Management if you’re a recent non-business graduate looking to gain essential business skills, or if you’re a professional in a specialized field (such as engineering, health care, education or creative industries) who wants to enrich your expertise with business skills.

How long does it take to get an MBA online? 

Our program is designed to be completed in as little as 2.5 years, depending on your schedule and pace.

Do I need professional work experience to apply to the online MBA program?

Accepted students typically have at least two years of full-time, post-undergraduate professional experience at the time of entry to the program. However, GW does not have a minimum work experience requirement for admission.

The admissions committee considers work experience, including internships and cooperative education assignments, but those experiences are usually considered supplementary. Military experience and non-traditional backgrounds will be strongly considered when evaluating applications.

Are there any ways to make my education more affordable?

Our 2024-2025 Scholarship provides up to 25% savings on tuition for eligible students. We also offer other funding options, including scholarships, fellowships, loans and work-study programs.
